Anthrax!
TRUCK CARRYING ANTHRAX INVOLVED IN CRASH
WebPosted Wed Mar 2 12:31:54 2005
Winnipeg---A Federal Express courier truck carrying a package of anthraxcollided with a car in Winnipeg's north end Wednesday, but officials saythe package was not damaged in the crash.
The truck was carrying the package for the Canadian Science Centre forHuman and Animal Health. The centre described the anthrax as level 2 and level 3, which apparently isn't as dangerous as the more severe form of the disease. The centre said it would not ship the more dangerous form of anthrax through a commercial courier. The surrounding area of the accident site has been sealed off and the hazardous materials unit has been called in. There are three forms of anthrax infection: cutaneous (skin),gastrointestinal (stomach and intestine) and inhalation (lungs). The cutaneous form of anthrax causes ulcers and coal-black scabs.Intestinal anthrax, which can be transmitted to people by eatingcontaminated meat, causes intense pain, bleeding and diarrhea. The inhaled form of anthrax is usually fatal.

Thanks Paul for this one.
It's actually quite amazing what they'll send in the comercial couriers, I was watching a documentary on the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta where they were talking about how doctors from around the country will send them a sample of any suspicious case. They just put the sample in styrofoam and Fed Ex it. So, there could be samples of Ebola and Hanta virus and anything else travelling back and forth across the country at any moment.
The moral of the story is, if you get a package through a comercial courier, make damn sure it's for you, and don't open anyone else's mail! Yikes!
Did you guys ever see my brother's pin, of the original band, he bought it in Kensington, everyone but me thought it was in bad taste.
I didn't know there were any anthrax cover bands, to distinguish from the original. I'm impressed!
You are such a smartass paul...
This story is funnier than I thought, I was listening to this story on CBC last night and they had an interview with someone from the lab. They were talking about the safety of transporting these agents by comercial courier, he said we only transport level 4, 3 and 2 agents by Fed Ex, they aren't equiped to transport level 1. The interview asked how they transport level 1 agents. Answer: Purolator.
I'm not kidding! Hilarious and creepy at the same time.
