Aug. 8, 2005. 07:53 AM

AMY BROWN-BOWERS AND HENRY STANCUSTAFF REPORTERSFive people were taken to hospital after three separate shootings in downtown Toronto last night with unconfirmed reports this morning that two of the injured have died.
In the first incident, two men were shot inside a moving car at a strip mall at a busy Scarborough intersection at around 11 p.m. The first victim, believed to be in his early 20s was found slumped inside a Nissan Altima which had stopped at the end of a driveway on Markham Rd. at Eglinton Ave. E.
He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the neck and face and was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Centre where he was to have undergo surgery early this morning.
A second victim who ran from the car after the shooting turned up later at Scarborough General Hospital with a gunshot wound.
Investigators found what appeared to be .45-calibre shell casings at the scene. Within the hour police arrested two people and recovered a gun.
In the second incident, two people were shot outside a residence near Homewood Ave. and Maitland St. just after 4 a.m.
One victim was shot in the head and both were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Minutes later, people inside a car flagged down police at Jarvis and Bloor Sts. with a man inside who had been shot multiple times. Witnesses told police a man approached the car outside Phoenix nightclub on Sherbourne St. near Carlton St. and fired several times into the car.
The man was rushed to St. Michael's hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police will not confirm whether there was any link between the two incidents near Jarvis and Carlton Sts.
